Installing a scaffold crash deck around a building perimeter to allow safety work to be completed.
We commenced this project in November 2023 which will be ongoing through 2024 and finish in early 2025. AMF will be supplying and installing 2500 sqm of scaffold to help facilitate the replacement of fireproofing from the IQ student accommodation building in partnership with 2ndGen Facades and Watkin Jones.
For this phased planned scaffold, engineered drawings were required. The scaffold tower must support the mast climbers that are being utilised to traverse up and down the building to change out each clay tile/fireproofing by hand. The crash deck is 10 to 15 boards wide and is double-boarded with monoflex between the boards to ensure that no dust or debris can fall to the ground below. Loading bays have been provided to assist with the materials that are being removed from the building.
A fan has been added to the scaffolding to provide further coverage and provide safety screening to the general public. With a triple or quadruple handrail to ensure the workers on the crash deck are fully protected. As the scaffold had to be bridged over the tunnel multiple 750mm wide, 6m long beam sections were utilised. This ensured that both bin lorries and emergency vehicles could gain access to the rear of the building throughout.
Significant health and safety planning went into this task as the building is still fully occupied by students. Therefore multiple site visits, safety meetings and allowances had to be met to ensure the overall safety of everyone who would be in close proximity. While the south end of the building on Dundee Street was fully boarded in and had temporary lighting to ensure the safety of both students and the public.
This is an extremely exciting commercial scaffolding project for AMF Access Services to be a part of. We have enjoyed working with 2ndGen facades and Watkin Jones on this project and further projects in the future.
Works Started in November 2023
